Draft Plan

Vision for Ham and Petersham Neighbourhood Plan
“To bring our community together to have a strong say in deciding the future shape of our area. The plan will preserve and enhance its semi rural character and history”

Aims
1. Design
To ensure all development enhances the area’s character and is designed to integrate with the existing architecture and green spaces. Development must be in suitable locations

2. Housing
To ensure the mix of any new housing has an appropriate balance in terms of tenure, size and type. Opportunities will be optimised for affordable housing, with a 50:50 split between intermediate and social housing. Older persons’ housing, providing for a range of independence and support, will be delivered in the area over the lifetime of the plan.

3. Green Spaces and Heritage
To protect and enhance the existing green spaces and sites of historical and environmental significance as these form the backbone to the area’s semi rural character. To ensure that they remain to the benefit of the community

4. Transport
To create better transport links that encourage safe walking, cycling and use of public transport and seek ways to avoid traffic congestion

5. Wellbeing
To promote the health, education and physical, mental and spiritual development of all residents including the young and the elderly

6. Local Centres
To enhance the character, quality and distinctiveness of key
local centres including viable and vibrant shopping centres for residents and visitors to enjoy
